1. Why do I need a divorce coach? I already have a lawyer, therapist and best friend!
--Great!! All three relationships are very important to your well-being! BUT.....a divorce coach fills in where they can't! Divorce lawyers are incredibly expensive. And busy. Unless you have unlimited resources, it would be impossible for them to sit with you for hours while they explain all of the possible scenarios and their potential outcomes. With a coach, you work through the best scenarios for what YOU want and then present that plan to your lawyer to proceed on the legal end. We can sort through varying scenarios at non-lawyer rates!
A therapist is also an integral part of your divorce. She or he will help you strengthen your emotional well-being in areas that they are specially trained. But there are so many facets that therapists are not trained to coach such as financial or parenting plans.
And...a bit of advice...keep your best friend as your best friend. All too often friends gradually drift away during divorces because they are worn out from hearing the story and frustrations over and over. They sometimes don't want to take sides. Preserve your friendship and save your frustrations for me to help you solve!
2. Can I afford you? I'm already stressed about paying for a lawyer!
--I KNOW I will save you money with your attorney! We sort through a lot of the details very quickly. We focus on what you want and how we can make that happen. I charge by the package, not by the hour. That means you get me working for you behind the scenes and won't get billed separately for it. This also means that you are well prepared when you do meet with your lawyer and can make the most effective use of that time you have with them. We also can break your payments into monthly amounts to make it easier for your budget.
3. Lawyers intimidate me; will you come with me to my meetings?
--Once we complete your complimentary session, if your situation fits my plan that includes that, then by all means, YES! I just ask that you confirm with your lawyer that they are comfortable with that. Most of them are, but I think it's wise to defer to their comfort level.
4. I don't have a lawyer yet; can I still work with you?
--Yes! In fact, if you're local to me I have a list of professionals in all areas of expertise that may be needed during the divorce process. I get no money out of my referrals but I do get to know that my clients will be in very good hands should they decide to hire them for themselves. If you're not local to me, I coach you on how to hire the best lawyer for your situation where you live.
5. My spouse and I have gone back and forth if we should get a divorce or stay together. I feel like we keep ending up in the same unknown space. Can you help?
--Of course! I can coach you on any aspect of the separation and divorce process, from the pre-separation phase to working through post-divorce complications.
6. I am unmarried but my partner and I have been together for 12 years. We own a home and have combined finances. Do you have a plan for me?
--I believe that any relationship that is being dissolved is worthy of the benefit they can obtain from coaching. I don't place limitations on the length or type of relationships that I will work with.
7. I have more questions!
--Feel free to schedule a free 30 minute consultation! I'll allow plenty of time to answer any of your questions that you may have!
